I don’t know about you, but I’ve never been fond of holiday shopping, especially when it comes to buying the perfect gift for my mom. It’s a never ending battle to buy her one gift she won’t return. Well, according to consumer expert Danielle Knox, it’s not just my mom, but women in general who are very hard to shop for. And here I thought I just didn’t know how to buy the perfect gift! Danielle was kind enough to join me recently to dish on the must have gifts for everyone on your list, even Fido. Does it get much better that that?
Candace Rose: What are some of the must have gifts for the holidays?
Danielle Knox: “It’s interesting, it tends to change every year, but the constant over the last several years have been tech gifts. Anything tech related! Whether you’re a techie or not, you can appreciate a tech gift, right? But the bottom line is make sure that the gift you’re giving your giftee is something you know they’re going to know, use, want, love, need; because you don’t want to buy them something, and it ends up in a shelf collecting dust for a year.
Candace Rose: Absolutely! Do you have any gift suggestions for the hard to shop for person on your list?
Danielle Knox: “Would that be a woman? Are you talking about a woman, Candace?”
Candace Rose: My mom!!!
Danielle Knox: “Women seem notoriously hard to shop for, so the thing I always advise people to do is buy jewelry. I don’t think you can ever go wrong with jewelry, and one of my favorite jewelry (gift) companies is Pandora because they have gifts for every occasion. Pandora will never ever steer you wrong, and this year is no exception. You know Pandora for their charms and bracelets; this year they’ve added some beautiful pave charms. They add that extra sparkle- that bling bling for the holidays. You can add more charms to it; take away charms- that is why I love Pandora. They get it right every time. They also have some cool statement pieces this year (please see video above for details). It’s a terrific thing for the fashion forward woman in your life.”
Candace Rose: What are some great gifts for our pets?
Danielle Knox: “Pets are people too, my friend!
Candace Rose: Yes they are!
Danielle Knox: Pet parents treat their pets as if they’re members of their family. Check this out (please see video above), this is from PetSmart, it’s Sunbeam’s Gourmet Dog Treat Maker. There are four slots there. Candace, you can make dog treats for each of your dogs. You can make pet treats at home. It is the coolest thing. And use whatever you have at home, whether it’s peanut butter or vegetables. Whatever it is you have- you mix it up, you put it there; you close the lid, you cook it for 15 minutes or so, you open it up and you get a dog biscuit shaped treat that you have made for your pets. And the great thing is you know what’s in it. So if you want to go organic or healthy or whatever it is, you know what you put in here so you know you’ve given them good stuff.
Now the other thing that PetSmart has got is they’ve got this great sherpa blanket. It’s great because you can throw it on the ground and your pet can lounge on it; you can throw it on top of them on those cold winter nights. This is under $30 which is I love. The other thing I love is 10% of the proceeds of this go to PetSmart charities to help homeless pets in need. So it doesn’t get much better than that. Both of these items were actually chosen by pet parents on PetSmart’s Facebook contest page. They had a contest, this is what was chosen, so really, really terrific gifts from PetSmart.”
Candace Rose: That’s wonderful.
Candace Rose: What are some great inexpensive stocking stuffers?
Danielle Knox: “Stocking stuffers are always kind of hard because you want something that’s small that you can throw in there, but you also want something that’s going to be usable, especially if you have a tweenager, and we know sometimes they can be a little difficult to buy for. All you have to do is say two words: One Direction. You can hear them screaming all across the universe! Teenagers love One Direction, so Colgate (please see video above) has done something so brilliant this year. This is One Direction, Candace on their new product line. It’s the 1D Max Fresh line from Colgate. They have the power toothbrush, they have the manual toothbrush, they have the fresh mint flavored toothpaste because we do know a tweenager’s taste buds do change. They don’t want bubblegum, they want something a little bit more mature. So this is a really cool thing and you see One Direction (Harry and the boys) they’re all plastered right there. This is only available for the holidays so you want to get this while it lasts because this really is for a limited time only.”
Candace Rose: How can we make our holiday gift exchanges as simple as possible this year?
Danielle Knox: “I think if you gather a group of family and friends around and you say ‘Listen, we’re going to pick out of a hat, and we’re going to buy for whoever we pick out of that hat for. I think you can make it very economical. A lot of people are struggling this holiday season, and that is a very easy way to make sure everybody around you, that you know and love gets a gift, but you’re not having to buy a gift for everybody. You can do that, or the other thing that you can do is set a price limit. Just say, ‘Okay, guys we’re not going to spend anymore than 25, 30, 40′- whatever the price limit it is you set. Make sure everybody adheres to that, and I think everybody will really appreciate you for bringing that forward and saying ‘Hey, let’s do it this way’. That way everybody gets a gift. I know it’s the thought that counts, so it doesn’t have to be a super expensive gift, but you’ve taken care of everybody on your list in an economical way.
Everything you see here (please see video above) is very economical, very affordable and that’s really what we try to do.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share?
Danielle Knox: “For more information on everything, simply go to VideoPump.tv. And shop early to avoid all the lines and the crowds.”
