Interview: Holiday 2012 Entertaining Must Haves with Lifestyle Expert Elizabeth Mayhew

With Thanksgiving dinner just hours away, and the holiday season now officially upon us, renowned lifestyle expert, TV personality and author Elizabeth Mayhew stopped by this week to share her favorite four products to make holiday entertaining easier on you and less stressful. Who doesn’t love that?! Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Candace Rose: What’s the secret to throwing a fun, festive holiday party and where do we start?

Elizabeth Mayhew: “The secret is getting organized and getting organized early. The last thing you want to do is keep everything until the last minute where you have to run out and make a million trips and be stressed out. So really plan out not only what your meal is, but what you’re going to serve it on, how you’re going to set your table, what your centerpiece is going to be and then enjoy yourself. If you plan ahead you’ll be much better off.

Now when you’re missing things and you need to fill in whether it’s plates or glassware, napkins, candles, batteries, appliances- you name it. Head to a store like Bed Bath & Beyond where you can do one stop shopping. You can also find fun things that can update your table. For example- I just found these Libbey tasting plates and these little Just Desserts tasting plates. It’s just a fun way to shake up the way you serve things. It’s kind of very professional. It’s the way a caterer would serve things. I’m sure you’ve been to many parties or weddings where they serve things on little plates. It’s just fun, especially the little desserts. Also, you’re not eating a lot so it’s a healthier way to serve and eat as well. So those are fun and you can get those at Bed Bath & Beyond.

Now another thing you can also pick up there while you’re there is the T-Fal Actifry. It’s a really easy way to cook because you don’t have to do anything. All you do is put your ingredients in and turn it on and it’ll cook for you, it stirs for you. You can just go and spend time with your friends and family. We’re lucky we’re living in a time where there are so many products that make our life easier and this is one of them. The other great thing about is it makes your life healthier because of the way it cooks at the temperature and the way it’s covered. You don’t need a lot of oil so not a lot of flavor is escaping when your cooking which translates to less fat needed. Even when you’re making french fries you use no more than a tablespoon of oil, so it’s really delicious. And a good thing is all the pieces go into the dishwasher, so it’s easy cook and easy cleanup. It retails for under $250.

And then the other product that I think is great is the Krups EA82 Full Auto Coffee and Espresso machine. It not only grinds the beans, it froths the milk, it dispenses hot water so you can make tea. You can make an espresso, you can make coffee, you can make a cappuccino, you can make a macchiato- you name it, you can customize it. It’s like having your own barista in your kitchen, so when you go out with your guests and ask them what they want, and they say ‘I want…’, you can say ‘Sure, no problem’. You can do that for every single person at your table which is really nice. It retails for under $800. It’s not cheap, but if you add up all the money that you spend on coffee over the year, this is a much smarter way to go.”
