Lifestyle expert and Today show contributor Elizabeth Mayhew joined me earlier this week to discuss simple ways parents can be fashion forward, comfortable, and save money.
With Labor Day just a few days away (where did summer go?) many parents will be out and about shopping this weekend for last minute basics their child needs for class on Tuesday, school clothes or even something for themselves. Elizabeth stated that “back to school is second to only Christmas in terms of shopping purchasing time for Americans” and in a downed economy and many parents struggling to make ends meet shopping for last minute supplies can be rough. Mayhew shared a few money saving tips including being “smart about your shopping” and shopping with her American Express card, which allows her to redeem points for gift cards to stores where she’s most likely to shop for herself and her children. Another benefit of using the card is they automatically give you a three month protection plan on anything you purchase.
If you’ve followed fashion religiously like I have this year, you know that the hottest trends are color, color, more color and prints! Well, this fall is no exception, purple and teal are HUGE for fall, and as a busy working mom, Elizabeth shared one of her favorite tips for accessorizing and brightening her wardrobe: scarves! Not only are they uber popular, but add the perfect amount of print and color, and scarves are ALWAYS on trend. Another fashion staple for Mayhew (and busy moms on the go) are comfortable shoes. Elizabeth mentioned her love of Dansko shoes because of their “contoured foot bed, and some even have memory foam”.
