Are you looking to travel this summer but don't know where to start? Would you love to travel by yacht, but think you can't afford it? Travel expert, Kendra Thornton has news for you, yachting is one of the biggest trends for summer and you can afford it, she also shares the top travel destinations in the world and tips for staying safe while using your tech devices while vacationing!
Candace Rose: So where are you this morning?
Kendra Thornton: "I'm in Fort Lauderdale, which is known as the yachting capital of the world and home to the annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show which will take place here at the Bahia Mar Yachting Center October 25th through the 29th. I'm currently on a magnificent 104 foot San Lorenzo luxury yacht. I want people to know you don't have to be a billionaire to travel on one this summer, and that's why I suggest people look for packages that are going to give them more for their money. And one great example here in Fort Lauderdale- 14 luxury resorts have teamed up to create a vacation like a VIP package where people are going to get a lot of extras like a $100 resort credit, a free room upgrade, $25 gift card, 2-for-1 savings pass, all of which is going to enjoy the high life without the high price tag, and that's for travel now through September 30th, so there's still plenty of time to take advantage of those savings."
Candace Rose: How about when it comes to social media. How are people using it for travel?
Kendra Thornton: "People are using social media sites for travel in a lot of fun new ways, they are logging on to maybe get ideas from like minded travelers on where they should take their next trip. They are logging on to see if perhaps anyone in their LinkedIn or Facebook profiles happens to be on same flight and make sure they are getting seated next to each other. And with this rise in social media and web use, especially when you're traveling, I want people to know about Norton Identity Safe- it's a great free new online service that allows people to conveniently save and synchronize all their website passwords so that they can use them on any computer, tablet, laptop, a mobile device, which is great. Let's say you're on vacation, you snap a photo you really want to put that on your Twitter of Facebook page but you don't have your tablet or computer with you then you could use any computer- you could use the hotel computer and do that safely and securely."
Candace Rose: Can you tell us about the rising popularity of off the chart destinations?
Kendra Thornton: "Coming off all the stay-cations we did last year, people are eager to try new things and have new experiences so we're seeing a rise in some of these off the beaten path destinations like Vietnam, Belize, Croatia (to name a few).
A fun new trend coming out of Great Britain where people are paying to camp in someone else's backyard- it's called 'garden camping'. Also, there's that option too!"
Candace Rose: How fun! Are you seeing any other new trends?
Kendra Thornton: "Yes, the airports are really streamlining their security measures which is great for all of us because it means the lines will move faster, it'll be a much easier experience to get through security and hopefully it'll incentivize all of us to travel a little bit more. Plus the technology that we use, it's getting bulkier in features, but it's definitely getting lighter in weight, so that's great. We'll be able to bring more of the stuff we love to use but it won't contribute to any excess baggage fees."
