Candace Rose: What are some simple ways we can decorate our homes on a budget?
Jennifer Farrell: "Well, you know, that's a really good question because this is the time of year when everyone wants to spruce up their homes but we don't want to spend a ton of money to do it. I've got some easy ideas anyone can do to bring spring into your space without breaking the bank. So let's start with the kitchen and let's bring the outdoors in by using things you already have like your kids rain boots. Fill them with fresh flowers from your garden or an inexpensive bouquet from the store. And then I've hung them on the walls using these brand new Command clear hooks. They're great because both hooks and the adhesive strips are clear so they blend right into the walls which means you're focus stays on your flower display. And then when it's time to swap out your decor they don't leave those ugly nail holes in the walls. I've teamed with Command brands because they use a technology that goes on strong but comes off clean without damaging surfaces. Just gently hold the hook with one hand, then stretch and release the adhesive strip. Super simple."
Candace Rose: What are the latest colors and trends in design?
Jennifer Farrell: "Well, you're going to see a lot of really hot vibrant colors this season like turquoise, tangerine, hot pink and grass green. But you don't have to spend a fortune to incorporate those colors into your existing decor. Candles, for example are a great way to add warmth and a bit of accent, but you don't have to throw out the old candles every time you want a new color. Instead stick with neutral colored candles in glass containers and then create your own custom fabric wraps. These are so much fun because you can do them for holidays, special occasions or just to bring a pop of color into your room. And then when you want to change all you do is swap out the wrap."
Candace Rose: Do you have any suggestions when it comes to decorating our bedrooms?
Jennifer Farrell: "Well, you know in the bedroom or in the living room, it can get very expensive and time consuming to get all new furniture or repaint all your walls so instead when you're doing your spring cleaning this year look for things you already have that you can re-purpose in a different way. A great way to add a splash of color to your walls without ever picking up a paintbrush is to use your old CD jewel cases. Take out the existing artwork and add scrapbook paper in a bunch of different colors and patterns, then when you assemble them altogether on the wall they form a mosaic of spring color that's so much fun. And the great thing is paper is inexpensive so whenever you want a change you swap out the papers."
Candace Rose: Oh how fun.
Jennifer Farrell: "Super fun! Oh and here's a really fun idea for a bedroom- create your own three-dimensional art. Start with a large decal like a tree or branches and then add butterflies, birds, picture frames- anything you can think of to give that three-dimensional look. If you have a small child you can even hang stuffed animals in the trees. Just put the hooks low enough that they can take the stuffed animals off the walls when they want to play with them or you could create an outer space scene with a giant moon decal surrounded by 3-D stars or rocket ships. Just use your imagination and have fun."
Candace Rose: Oh that's a great idea. Do you have any additional tips or information you'd like to share?
