Tech expert and media personality, Manoush Robin stopped by this week to share the must haves in tech gifts and gadgets for everyone on your list this year! From Skyping with relatives to musical instruments for the kids to making your own soda out of water and the latest Blackberry Bold, Manoush has you and your family covered!
Candace Rose: What are the must have items this holiday season?
Manoush Robin: “Well, Candace, I’ve been looking into affordable high tech and low tech ways for you to stay in touch with your family over the holidays and I want to start out with a cutting edge- the Blackberry Bold 9900 is the thinnest Blackberry ever. It’s got the full keyboard that smartphone users love but now also a super responsive touch-screen with amazing visuals. Web browsing is two times faster with the powerful new Blackberry 7 operating system.
Now I’ve also got something so that you can get close to family who are far away that maybe you can’t go and visit. Panasonic has made a Blu-ray DVD player that is Skype enabled and lets any HDTV webcam make video calls. With high-def, Candace, this is like having your family and friends in your living room and if they call you when you’re not home, they can even record a video message and of course it plays Blu-ray DVD’s as well.
And then another high tech for you, but this one is free which we always love- Posterous.com; this is a site that lets you create a safe and secure space online where you can share family photos and videos and it’s different from other social networks because you have full control over who can see pictures of your kids. Less tech savvy family members aren’t going to miss out because all your posts are sent by email too.”
Posterous.com allows you to share photos of friends and family safely online.
Candace Rose: Oh that’s great.
Manoush Robin: “Yeah, there are some really cool things out there. We always love free too. And I’ve also got some classic gift ideas for maybe somebody who is looking to do something a little more traditional- what about giving the gift of learning to play a musical instrument. Playing an instrument is education, it’s fun, it’s something that can be enjoyed forever and it’s affordable. You can start off with a $25 ukulele before investing in a guitar for your child maybe or try a $10 harmonica. Your local music shop can give you great advice on instruments and deals on lessons and I found a great website called WannaPlayMusic.com that can hook you up with the closest one near you.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any gift ideas for people who entertain often?
Manoush Robin: “Oh absolutely. I have something that’s going to keep costs down if you entertain- the Genesis soda maker from SodaStream turns water into soda in seconds. It’s not only fun but you won’t be lugging home bottles and cans from the store and then having them out for recycling. You get the full kit plus dozens of flavors for $100. It’s really perfect for entertaining. But you can get more information about all of these ideas plus a lot of others at DailyLounge.com.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any other gift ideas you’d like to share?
Manoush Robin: “I’d just like to say shop around when it comes to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Retailers are outdoing each other to give you the best price but it’s up to you to find it.”
