Candace Rose: What are the biggest makeup trends for the holidays?

Jenn Falik: For the holidays we're seeing very dramatic hair and makeup. Starting out with the hair, it's all about this really gorgeous updo, but it's not a perfect ballerina bun it's sort of more of a messy kind of tousled look. The best way to get that look is to start with shiny, clean hair and then you kind of mess it up from there. So Neutrogena Anti Residue shampoo is a great drugstore buy. Switch it out for your regular shampoo once a week, it's going to get rid of 90% of that residue that builds up from shampoo, conditioners and styling products. It gives you a perfect foundation to work with when you're styling your hair.

CR: Is it safe for color-treated hair?

JF: It's great for color-treated hair. It's great for all different hair types, it's just going to give you a nice, clean fresh base and once you've got that updo and your hair is all pulled out of your face, you want to play up your eyes. Bold eyes is always a big trend for the holidays, but one tip when you're going with the bold eyes, stay away from the red lip because together it's a little too much. But to perfect bold eyes, you don't have to spend a lot of money. Physicians Formula has a great lash enhancing mascara that has your basic good black mascara that you need and then a little bit of of a metallic gleaming top coat to give you some extra shine – $11 at the drugstore, great buy and you buy the shade based on your eye color so it's sort of foolproof. You know exactly which one you need when you go to the wall and you see blue eyes, for hazel eyes and they're also doing these gel cream liners called Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Glam. Gel creamliners are great because they're very long lasting and surprisingly easy to use. You get three different shades in one set, you can go very dramatic, you can smudge it out for a smoky eye and again it's done by eye color so there's no guesswork when you're trying to figure which one's right for you.

CR: What are the top trends for manicures and pedicures?

JF: The top trends for manicures and pedicures is low maintenance, maximum efficiency and the shellac manicure from CND is a new beauty breakthrough that is absolutely essential during the holidays. Shellac manicure is going to last you 14 days- no chips, no smudges, super easy to get, you just go to your local nail salon and they have them all over the country. You just have to check out online to see what salon near you offers it but within 30 minutes there's no drying time. I'm very impatient so I love this. There's 12 different shades to choose from, it dries down to this gorgeous shellac polish manicure. I just got one on Sunday and I am obsessed. You can pack, you can cook, you can travel, your nails are not going to chip. Two weeks, perfect flawless looking manicure.

CR: What are your favorite colors?

JF: My favorite colors, I really like more of the kind of beige, nude shades but red is always very fun and we are seeing a trend where a lot of people are matching their lips and their tips they say. So if you're doing a red lip and a red nail polish, it's very kind of mod, but it's very in again, so that's sort of fun. There's 12 shades now, 12 more coming out in Maarch and then last but not least you do not want to forget about your skin over the holidays and you're not usually getting the sleep (if you are anything like me) that you wish you were getting. The Roc Brilliance Two Step Kit is a really great skincare update for the holidays. It uses micro current technology called e-pulse and what this does is you've got serum in a cream, they work together to create, to stimulate the skin so that the natural processes work more efficiently and you will see in as little as three days (which is pretty amazing) firmer, more resiliant, more defined skin and again you can pick it up at the drugstore – one for day, one for night, one for your eye area. It's especcially important to take care of this time of year.

CR: What are the hottest fashion looks when celebrating this holiday season?

JF: The hottest fashion looks is any look that can really be played up with multiple accessories. I like to keep my fashions a little more simple and then really go nuts with piling on the jewelry. I love tones of grey and camel, I think that those are really big and of course the little black dress is always in style. Go to your local mall, there's so many places that you can get inexpensive jewelry that looks amazing, pile on tht jewelry, it mkes your wardrobe more versatile, it gives you tons of options for each look and it's sparkly, fun and festive.

CR: How should we dress when attending our office parties?

JF: When you're attending an office party you want to be fun but you don't want to be too revealing because you don't want to be the one that everyone's talking about at the water cooler the next day. If you're going to do a little black dress, put a blazer over it. I think a blazer is a girls best friend year-round but especially during the holiday season. If you get a really great fitting blazer, maybe something with a big shoulder and you can cinch it in at the waist with a belt, throw that whatever dress you're going to wear and it looks a bit more polished, a little bit more conservative but not too conservative. Put on some heels, go with a nice opaque tight and then when you go out later, you can take off the blazer, add a little extra shimmer on your lips or tousle up the hair a little bit more and you've got a perfect going out for the night look.

CR: What's the proper attire for family get togethers?

JF: Family get togethers I think can be somewhat similar to office parties although you can go a bit cozier since you're at somebody's house. I think a really great cozy kind of cashmere or wool dress, mini dress with long sleeves and some nice opaque tights and boots is really great for a family party.

great tips. I would love to get my nails done and have them last 2 weeks. For some reason every time I do my nails I end up cleaning the bathrooms and doing all sort of manual labor. brilliant right?
