Homemade Dills For the 4th Of July!

I took a class one evening about five years ago on making homemade pickles because I've been craving them the last fifteen years. You see when I was a kid my mom would always take me to various craft shows and there was an elderly woman who sold her homemade pickles and much to my excitement there were samples! While my mom would shop for Christmas ornaments or decor for our home I was busy in the corner eating all the goodies…it's a wonder they didn't kick us out!

During the class I learned that if the cucumbers weren't cured properly you could kill yourself. As someone who is very afraid of death (I don't even like typing the word), I wanted no part of it. Thankfully one of my favorite blogs, Fly Through Our Window posted a recipe recently on making refrigerator pickles. These weren't complicated to make and there was no risk in me doing myself in!

Last Friday I went to the local fruit/vegetable stand, Davis Ranch in Sloughhouse, California and bought some pickling cucumbers. The following day I purchased the rest of the ingredients, and jars and gave the pickles a go!

While I was making them I felt a little Aunt Bee-ish, since I'm not known for my skills in the kitchen!

I just love cucumbers and onions, especially when they're sweet onions!

Sliced Cucumbers and Onions – Yum!

Filling the jars with Cucumbers & Onions!

Adding liquid to the jars.

I left them uncovered in the refrigerator for 24 hours as the recipe states, and they turned out DELICIOUS if I do say so myself!!! Make sure and head over to Fly Through Our Window for her easy and yummy recipe!  These would be great for Fourth Of July!

Hey, you. I ever read your “I’ve moved.” and still posted my comment there. Silly me. Still, the wishes are the same.
